Biography
Dr. Stadnyk’s passion for coaching stems from experience. He has worn many hats throughout his medical career. His first-hand experience in leadership roles gives him the unique viewpoint of living through some of leadership’s most difficult challenges.
Current Roles
Dr. Stadnyk heads up Banner’s Physician Leadership Development (PLD) efforts where he creates and teaches a leadership curriculum. Dr. Stadnyk is one of the architects of Banner’s Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) for Physicians which boasts over 300 physician graduates and is based in Phoenix, Arizona.
Dr. Stadnyk completed training to become a Banner Internal Certified Coach. Subsequent to that training, he enrolled in The Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara for additional experience which led to the granting of an Executive Leadership Coaching Certificate.
Furthermore, he is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF), a London-based organization recognized as the premier governing body committed to the art, science and practice of professional coaching. In 2012, the ICF bestowed its coveted Prism Award on Banner Health (along with one other US entity, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration).
In addition to providing leadership coaching to Banner executives, both physicians and non-physicians, Dr. Stadnyk has provided private coaching and training for health systems across the country.
Past Banner Experience
He is a past Regional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and provided immediate and direct oversight for Northern Colorado facilities including North Colorado Medical Center, McKee Medical Center, and Fort Collins Medical Center.
He provided medical leadership and indirect oversight for Banner’s remaining hospitals of the Western Region across seven states. Furthermore, he also served as the interim hospital CEO for Banner’s facility in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Prior Professional Experience and Training
Prior to joining the Banner team, Dr. Stadnyk served nine years as the CMO for a 565-bed teaching hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital, in Denver, Colorado. He practiced internal medicine in North San Diego County, serving as Medical Director of his multi-specialty practice group.
Education
Dr. Stadnyk completed his pre-medical, medical, and internal medicine training at UCLA. He is a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL). Sheldon is also a member of the INternational Coaching Federation (IFC) and holds a coaching certificate from the Hudson Istitute of Santa Barbara. His Masters of Medical Management degree is from Tulane University.
Personal
Sheldon lives with his wife Lisa in Boulder, Colorado. His interests are reading, jazz and classical music, photography, and creative writing. He completed every Boston Marathon in the 2000-2009 decade and remains an avid runner.
